Program Features & Benefits

What is Community Solar?

Community Solar refers to local solar arrays that are shared by multiple customers (termed ‘Subscribers’).  Community Solar requires no capital investment, equipment installation, or ongoing maintenance obligations.  Lastly, Community Solar lowers the cost of energy.

How Does Community Solar Work?

Subscribers receive credit on their electricity bills for their share of the power produced by the shared Community Solar arrays.  By committing to Community Solar, Subscribers provide the financial support necessary to deliver new solar resources in the same utility regions in which the Subscribers consume their energy.

Where is Community Solar Available?

Community Solar is available in several states and regions (e.g., CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, HI, IL, MA, MD, ME, MN, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OR, RI, SC, VT, and WA).

What are the advantages of Community Solar?

The primary advantages of Community Solar are  simplicity, flexibility and cost effectiveness.  Community Solar subscriptions can be adjusted and assigned to different utility accounts over time.  This provides the flexibility in the event a location is closed, a lease is not renewed or is relocated.  Terms for the contracts are 3 to 20 years and at a discount to current rates.

  • Simple Structuring.  Community Solar is a paper transaction that connects utility accounts with one or more Community Solar farms – no installation, capital investment or maintenance required.

  • Cost Competitiveness.  Community Solar can deliver a guaranteed 20% discount from the local utility’s  supply rate – a rate equal to or better than the rates offered by most retail energy suppliers.

  • Sustainability.  Acting as a primary corporate participant in Community Solar participant will certify sustainability leadership through connections with new solar arrays in over 100 communities.

  • Diversity Support  Through ESG’s proprietary matching program, Customers can dedicate up to 10% of their community solar purchasing to provide discounted power to minority businesses in the same region

The ESG Community Solar program allows customers to secure sustainable energy benefits and below market costs for thousands of locations across multiple states at no cost premium while enhancing corporate reputation.
